Locations are available for takeout and online pre-order. Go Get Em Tiger is the growing coffee empire by Kyle Glanville and Charles Babinski, a duo whose original G&B Coffee stall just so happens to be its own staple at Grand Central Market. With eight locations currently running throughout the city, Go Get Em Tiger has fast become a hometown chain with consistency, but with enough charm and nuance at each outpost to keep things fresh.

This is Far East Plaza’s stripped-down espresso stop that fuels you with meticulously measured pulls from Drop Coffee Roasters and Sey Coffee beans, and offers a number of creative caffeinated options in a sleek, minimalist setting. Named for the endangered gorilla native to Rwanda and Uganda, this excellent Echo Park café and roaster was founded by Jack Karuletwa, a displaced member of the Tutsi. Today, Karuletwa’s Silverback Coffee now supports small coffee farmers, several rebuilding-oriented nonprofits and wildlife conservation efforts in his home country.

Regal and enigmatic, but also kind and slyly mischievous, she strikes a singular presence. She has an extraordinary head of undulating silver hair, like ripples in a pond on a sweltering day when the air above also shimmers in waves. She has many on-the-spot inquiries for servers and owners — about how much oil the kitchen uses for the crispy rice, about where in Iran the owner is from and how long she’s been in America, about the proper consistency of ab-goosht (more on that later). People readily answer the questions; her stately, inquiring disposition usually prompts a few questions of their own. We both wanted to better grasp the city’s Iranian American culture by scaling mountain after saffron-peaked mountain of rice, wading through every possible herbaceous stew and devouring as many different kinds of kebabs as we could find.

Coffee and Plants

No matter which location you visit, the beans at Boy & the Bear get roasted three times a week, which makes a major difference in the quality of each cup. All four cafés also have Wi-Fi, charging outlets and at least a few couches, and the Redondo Beach flagship has the most space and outdoor seating. Proudly Black and Latino-owned, this small, fully vegan South L.A. Coffee and retail shop offers a highly curated array of specialty coffee beans sourced from small farms all over the word.

This Leimert Park coffee shop serves toasts, smoothies, coffee and tea, with high-quality beans sourced from the Ethiopian province of Sidamo. It also doubles as an art gallery and community space; you’ll find artwork by new Black artists all over the walls and occasional panels hosting musicians, influencers and other creatives. Next door is Harun Intl, a retail and online shop that sells Harun-branded streetwear, bags of house coffee beans and other items curated by co-owner Chace Johnson, a former music industry executive. With fresh, affordable and healthy food is one of the key goals of South LA Cafe, but that’s only a part of its overall mission. Owned by Celia and Joe-Ward Wallace, the coffee shop serves as a community events space and free grocery distribution hub.

How to use a Persian rice cooker

Yet the more Helou and I ate, the more distinct every restaurant became. We could discern the precise seasoning of the meats (and lack thereof), or the exact thickness of the yogurt dips, or the hoped-for weightlessness of the rice; exceptional specialties leaped out to us. Restaurant critic Bill Addison pinpoints seven recent reviews, from a carnitas food truck to a tiny Japanese wonder, that illustrate the city’s amazing dining culture.

Cognoscenti Coffee

The shop is small, with only a bit of counter space inside, but a spacious and pet-friendly patio makes for a good place to get work done, catch up with friends or make eyes at your neighbor. Street parking can be tough to find, but bike racks abound for two-wheeled commuters. From lavender-flavored lattes to single-origin pour-overs, here are our favorite coffee shops across L.A. The successful product of an online crowdfunding campaign, this cozy Compton-based café and organic coffee roaster sells excellent coffee, tea and vegan pastries, plus a small array of beautiful plants. An eclectic mix of art dots the walls of Patria Coffee, which features a handful of indoor seats and a few patio tables on the grass outside.

Two food writers eat at all the Persian restaurants in SoCal (OK, 18 of them)

I had a ham and cheese omelette that was out of this world! Please visit the locations link below to choose your store. I was on the lookout for a superlative version of kuku sabzi, an herb-dense egg dish similar to a frittata that’s also a requisite at Nowruz. I didn’t find my ideal, honestly, but the one at Attari came the closest. The kebabs are solid, the donbalan being the front runner. Our soft-spoken, septuagenarian server blushed when we asked him to translate that word; Helou immediately understood it was lamb’s testicles when she saw his embarrassment.

Patria Coffee

In addition to its noble mission, the café itself is large, airy and full of indoor seating—the perfect Eastside-ish spot for a well-made cup of specialty coffee. Silverback Coffee also features an extensive milk-based drink assortment, an array of sweeter, dessert-like drinks and a food menu of breakfast fare and pastries. This takeaway-oriented neighborhood spot off San Vicente does, in fact, make some damn good coffee. Run by Joshua Mock (of the now-closed Little Amsterdam Coffee), Dam Good Coffee offers a brief, but satisfying menu of espresso-based drinks, hot and iced tea, lemonade and even a few affordably priced toasts and pastries. Add-ons like chaga, a superb dirty chai latte and friendly, efficient staff make this Mid-City café a must-go for locals in the area—and anyone else passing through.

If you live closer to Glendale than to Irvine, this handsomely spare restaurant is your destination for dizi; the version here brings the lamb-rich umami depth, a truth noted in a 2016 review by Jonathan Gold. Some versions age for a decade or more to be spreadable like cheese; this one was young, but its intensity sliced straight through the stew’s meatiness. As a contrast to the stew, sturgeon over dilled rice is terrific in its simplicity. Tehrangeles, as the Westwood-based community has long been nicknamed, began to take shape in the 1960s; it mushroomed with the newcomers who fled Iran in response to the country’s scarring 1979 revolution. The two Attari restaurants reside on a block that received an official designation as “Persian Square” by Los Angeles in 2010, an acknowledgment of how deep the local Iranian American roots have reached.

Part coffee shop, part subscription service, Dayglow is all about showcasing its favorite independent and up-and-coming roasters from around the world. You can find them stashed in the monthly coffee boxes, or drop by either the Silver Lake or West Hollywood locations for a full espresso menu, neon-lit settings and, of course, whatever the daily selection of these faves might be. Expect tonics and canned coffees and bubbly shrub sodas in addition to every classic coffee drink you could want, as well as home equipment, trendy merch and pastries. Tourists and Westsiders might wait in long lines at Intelligentsia up the street, but Silver Lake locals prefer Cafecito, the quieter shop up on Hoover. Here you’ll find less pretension and more privacy, not to mention an ethos that's all about sustainability and social justice.

This spacious and stylish coffee destination is busy no matter the time of day—no surprise, seeing as it’s one of Highland Park’s top shops to grab a cup and a croissant, now with a second location in Downtown L.A.'s Fashion District. The original location's tall ceilings, tiled floors and diverse seating options spread between tables, couches and a patio out back make for a fashionable setting, while the toasts, breakfast burritos, and Sugarbloom Bakery pastries make for a solid meal. The espresso blend rotates frequently, but teas and specialty coffee drinks remain more or less the same. We love the Figueroa, made with sweetened condensed milk, espresso, milk and cinnamon, topped with a Maria Cookie.

Scandinavian Table Lamp

This minimalist lamp is made up of a large opal polycarbonate globe held by a plain tubular aluminium structure, a wireless lamp you can easily move where you need it in your home. Deluxe delivery fees will increase for shipping addresses that are approximately 100 city miles or more from store locations. Enter your zip code before checking out or contact your local store to confirm the corresponding zone for your zip code. Norwegian designer Lars Tornøe is responsible for the beautifully sculptural Kizu lamp from New Works. Designed to defy gravity with two bold sculptural forms, this Scandinavian designed lamp looks like it is performing an almost impossible balancing act.

Layered lighting that consists of a mixture of ambient, task and accent lighting works particularly well in living rooms. Larger living rooms may need more ambient lighting, while those with many ornaments or features may benefit from lots of accent lighting. If you read or do other activities that require good visibility in the room, think about placing task lighting in strategic places, such as near your favorite armchair.

From kitchen items to couches and even custom-made kitchens, IKEA has redefined what Scandianvian design means, and has reintroduced truly democratic design on a huge scale. First designed by well-known architect and designer Kaare Klint, the lightshades have been enormously popular since they launched in 1943. Le Klint continues to produce new lighting in their factory in Odense, Denmark, usually with a callback to the folded, geometric look of the original. In Scandinavian, where it is dark so much of the year, lighting is incredibly important. Apartments are set up to maximise light without creating a harsh atmosphere, and much of this is due to the chosen lamps in the home – from pendant to floor.

What are the three fundamental types of lighting?

An absolute classic of Danish and Scandinavian design, the PH 5 Pendant was designed by Poul Henningsen (hence the PH) in 1958. The shades of the pendant are angled so that the light is not too bright, creating a lovely diffuse, but still significant, light source. Thanks to its clean, sharp lines, the PH 5 is typically used as a kitchen or dining area light. Perhaps more than other design items, lighting is highly technical and therefore requires a great deal of knowledge in order to produce well. As technology changes and improves over time, new innovations are integrated into Scandinavian lighting.

Hang the ceiling lamp over your dining table or place the table lamp next to your bed for a soft glow in the evening. This small but mighty Scandinavian design lamp has really become a modern design classic with its simple but unique shape. The lamp is available in several variations, but perhaps the most popular is the raw concrete base with the brass button - another neat example of when two different materials are combined perfectly together. From the kitchen to the bedroom and everywhere in between, Scandinavian lighting is a stunning and well-appointed choice.

A classic since its release in 1947, the Grässhoppa was designed by Swedish designer Greta Magnusson. The bell-shaped shade is reminiscent of a head, and is connected by a ball-joint to be easily adjustable. The thin tripod legs offer a bit of playfulness – as well as sturdiness – in an otherwise minimalist silhouette. Experience the utmost in relaxation with the Lewen Power Reclining Sectional. Luxurious top-grain leather upholstery wraps around the plush comfortable cushions of this striking piece.

Use sheer curtains or blinds that allow sunlight to filter through, creating a soft and diffused glow. Keep windows unobstructed, removing heavy drapes and dark coverings, which can dampen the entry of light. This playful lamp is inspired by the travertine columns of Ancient Greece, but adds a little bend for a fun silhouette. The light is quite diffuse, giving it a feeling of glowing rather than harsh light. Designed by French designer Inga Sempé for HAY, the Matin has become an instant design icon.

Lights of Scandinavia

This approach ensures that the lighting complements the overall aesthetic without overpowering it. Made from a bent steel sheet, the Lamp de Bureau is ideal as lighting for desks; can’t you just imagine it in a large university library space? It was designed by Jean Prouvé in the 19030s but it remains as modern as ever. The 26A is one of the most beloved designs for its simple but slightly quirky shape.

Complement table lamps with chandeliers, mix and match pendants and wall sconces, and create a chic environment in your modern home. For instance, you can use floor lamps to establish an ambient, all-encompassing glow that radiates throughout a room. Table lamps, on the other hand, can be positioned as task lighting for reading or working. Wall sconces offer accent lighting, highlighting specific architectural features or artwork. Along with most of the Louis Poulsen PH collection, the 3 1/2 table lamp is a classic of Danish design that is as timeless as it is ubiquitous. It may be the perfect desk lamp, thanks to the shades that offer targeted light that’s not hard on the eyes.

The result is an innovative collection of Nordic furniture, lighting and accessories for modern interiors worldwide. The upward-facing cloth shade is attached by a gimbal, so it can be rotated in any direction. As the shade points up, it offers a diffuse glow that can be quite effective for providing light even in a large room. The best of the best that Wisconsin has to offer. The service is polite, quick, and efficient. The food is tasty and perfectly prepared. Afternoon tea also proves a wonderful social occasion for the sober community. As Gen Z showcases a much different relationship to alcohol, and members of older generations rethink their own relationship to drinking, gatherings that aren’t centered around booze have gained traction. Almost any traditional afternoon tea menu includes the option to add bubbles, if desired, but it’s an afterthought — the tea will always be the focus. And despite being very busy we got great service from our waitress Jenny. She was very courteous and quick with refills even though it looked like she was the only one taking care of the whole place.

Each bag of beans, as well as the beans used for individual drip coffee and cold brew drinks, are roasted on-site by Coffee De Mundo for maximum freshness. Choose from oat or almond milk in your daily roast of the day, or opt for a country-specific cold brew to taste the unique flavors in each blend. The shop also makes vegan Thai tea, Mexican café de olla and Vietnamese coffee—a boon for anyone that’s lactose intolerant. Named after a competitive French cycling term, this small bike-friendly coffee shop in Culver City offers excellent breakfast burritos, market-priced single-origin matcha and a deep commitment to the surrounding community. Hyper curated and hyper technical, Highland Park's Kumquat Coffee is a caffeine lover's paradise.

Super Domestic Coffee

The shop carries unique home goods, personal accessories and (of course) a few crystals, with a colorful exterior floral display that brightens up its busy traffic-prone stretch of Lincoln Boulevard every day of the week. Of course, Flowerboy Project’s simple drink menu incorporates florals, with excellent lavender and rose lattes that would change any skeptic’s opinion about consuming flowers. Well for Mad Lab, one of Downtown's top roasters, the name says it all. At the Hollywood window, simply stroll up and order from the menu or let whoever's behind the counter whip something up special for you while you nosh on fresh Clark Street pastries. Is a city constantly on the move, even if it's only at a glacial pace on the freeway. Coffee, and lots of it, preferably paired with a quick breather at one of the city's best coffee shops.

Customers can choose from to-go goods and grab-and-go bottles of house-made cold brew, or take a patio seat to take in the funky, fun spaces with pastries, brunchy bites and retail items. Try the almond and macadamia milk cappuccino. Formerly a private home, Aroma Coffee & Tea Company transformed itself into a darling café where you can grab a coffee, slice of cake or full-on meal. The expansive coffee and tea menu caters to everyone, from the espresso lover to the chai-latte enthusiast. Inside the cafe, a library-like atmosphere—complete with fireplace—makes it feel like you’re chilling at home, while outside is more casual with a back patio and some tables on the front sidewalk.

Oh, remember that it would be very impolite to mention the Bears in anything other than a disparaging way. Our pick among the larger, older-guard Westwood kebab houses. Helou’s inquisitiveness seemed to irk our surly server, who disappeared for long stretches, but he couldn’t diminish our appreciation of the cooking. Chefs tend the flames and the skewers behind a glassed-in grill; this is a fine place to splurge on pricier cuts of meat such as rack of lamb kebab. The menu, like the dining room, sprawls, so it is wise to zero in on the several specials available only a few days a week. It’s worth stopping by on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for tahchin, a savory rice cake mixed with yogurt and egg, layered with chicken or lamb, baked and crowned with crimson barberries.

Run by husband-and-wife pair Laurent “Lou” and Karima Correa, this weekend-only Burbank coffee shop, patisserie and sandwich spot has been serving the Valley since 2016. All pastries, from seasonals to Lou’s wonderfully flaky daily croissant, are made using organic milk, eggs and produce, as well as French butter. The shop’s traditional espresso-based drinks also use organic milk as well, with an artisan tea selection larger than most neighborhood coffee shops. Note that the tiny storefront doesn’t have much in the way of seating, aside from a few patio tables outside—making it a better choice for takeaway drinks and snacks. Endorffeine isn’t your cutesy, sun-dappled, Instagram-driven coffee shop—not that there isn’t a place for those, especially in L.A.

As of late, South LA Cafe has also served as a site for free Covid testing and boosters. For the casual walk-in customer, you’ll find delicious pastries and a selection of hot and cold caffeinated drinks, but South LA Cafe’s extended community involvement more than reflects the fact that coffee shops aren’t solely just places to work and grab some java. In a big way—especially in its new-ish Arts District location, a 7,000-square-foot, two-story café and coffee roastery that's now the L.A. The all-day menu here features a flexible kind of global cuisine, not to mention a handful of truly good coffee-based mocktails exclusive to that space.

We were having the third of our day’s seven meals — eight if you count a final stop for ice cream — at Attari Grill, an Iranian restaurant in Westwood. The restaurant is the lesser-known adjunct to popular sibling Attari Sandwich Shop; they face each other across a courtyard where customers linger at tables shaded by colorful umbrellas, and they serve similarly meaty menus and grab-and-go foods. Great food at fair prices and great service! The quality of service is nothing short of outstanding which is hard to come by these days, great place. In Inglewood, gentrification and a post-SoFi stadium sea change in the community makeup remain ongoing points of contention and debate. Bridging the gap is Inglewood’s Sip & Sonder, a Black woman-owned cafe that opened in 2017, with a second Downtown outpost at the Music Center. Owners Shanita Nicholas and Amanda-Jane Thomas, who previously worked in law, chose their cafe’s location carefully, intending to represent their community and fill a gap in Inglewood’s neighborhood coffee needs. The cafe also doubles as a recording studio and local event space. Know of or already love and support a Black-owned coffee shop in L.A. Support Black-owned businesses with our comprehensive list of Black-owned coffee shops in greater Los Angeles.

Brunch, when omelettes and French toast galore get shuttled out of the kitchen to chic Valley dwellers. This Long Beach coffee roaster and café is proudly queer Black- and Latina-owned—the product of two women who left corporate jobs to provide fresh, high-quality coffee to every kitchen and increase the visibility of women of color in the specialty coffee industry. While the fully plant-based coffee shop is only open on Sundays for now, Scary Good Coffee also sells bags of single-origin specialty coffee and house blends every day of the week online. The Playa Vista coffee stand features plenty of open-air and outdoor seating, while the larger Santa Monica outpost sports a more modern look with plenty of indoor tables. This charming Historic Filipinotown café offers all-day fare that's worth lingering over—already an easy feat, given the free Wi-Fi and creative coffee there, too.

Hilltop’s Eagle Rock location offers high-quality coffee and tea—including a delicious lavender latte—and a simple all-day menu of pastries, grain bowls, sandwiches and “droptops” (fully loaded toasts). Powdery beignets and weekend-only waffles round out the café’s food items, with many items on the menu substantial enough for a full-on meal. Located on the ground floor of an apartment building, Hilltop Eagle Rock’s minimalist interior and small outdoor patio area make it an excellent spot for Northeast L.A. Super Domestic's larger Washington Boulevard sister spot, Mañana Coffee, also sells a bevy of plants and other assorted artisan goods. Both coffee shops roast their own beans and make all alternative milks and syrups in-house, for quality you can taste in every sip.

They also offer fresh pastries and breakfast burritos, just in case all that caffeine isn't fuel enough. Located in Woodland Hills, Tang and Java is a Black- and Filipina-run gelato and coffee shop founded by a pair of friends in 2021. Inside the tiny strip mall spot you’ll find a sleek, modern interior with plenty of tables and counter seating. Tang and Java’s specialty gelato flavors feature uniquely L.A. Creations like the Ole Ole, a mango sorbet topped with chamoy, tamarind candy and Tajin, while the drinks menu goes beyond standard coffee and tea with fruity iced drinks and several choices of non-sugar sweeteners. The woman-owned shop uses beans from L.A.-based Cafecita Coffee, which works exclusively with organic, women-run coffee farms.

The food court of this Irvine grocery store serves kebabs and fragrant stews (and also pastas, shawarma and crepes) to a clamoring lunchtime crowd. The market’s true glory, though, is sangak, an Iranian whole-wheat flatbread freckled with sesame seeds; Helou has seen it baked over beds of stones. (Its name translates as “pebbles.”) A line usually forms for the charred, soft-crisp, 4-foot loaves. We draped ours over the front of a shopping cart and ripped off blistering hunks while we wandered the aisles — and we weren’t the only shoppers doing that. Many of the stews we sampled during our trek tasted one-dimensional, but a bowl of ghormeh sabzi (beef, kidney beans and herbs) had a whole dried lime animating the dish with its unique, musky-pungent sourness.

Small-batch, seasonal pastries like passion fruit pie with graham cracker crust; pecan and caramel coffee cake; and blackberry rhubarb galettes are so good you won't want to share, and go great with pour-over coffee and specials like vanilla-and-orange cappuccinos. A casual menu of rice bowls, breakfast sandwiches and toasts should do the trick, and if you want to bring the magic home, Doubting Thomas has its own blend of beans—as well as house-made concentrates for matcha, chai and beyond—which you can buy on-site. For caffeine purists, we've also included more minimalist spots that will happily sate any coffee nerd. To help you find the perfect brew, we’ve sipped our way through the best spots in town—check out our guide, refuel and get back out there. Equal parts coffee, flower and gift shop, this laidback Venice café offers Westside locals gorgeous floral arrangements with a side of coffee.

It focuses on the states that are expected to be most competitive in the effort by the campaigns to get to 270 electoral votes, a majority of the 538 total available. Latinos, Black voters and young voters all view the economy negatively. Majorities overall disapprove of Biden's handling of the economy and more voters say they think the economy was better under Trump. Biden is trying to make up ground there with younger voters and Black voters, groups he's lagging with. Trump and groups supporting him have spent only about $700,000 in Pennsylvania in that same time frame. To better understand the landscape for the presidential election with a little more than six months to go, here is our initial Electoral Vote map of the cycle.

To this point, the Biden campaign has spent almost nothing in ads on the state and the polling has, to this point, shown Trump well ahead. The industrial Midwest has moved more toward Republicans because of the shift toward the GOP among white voters without college degrees. That's why states like Ohio and Iowa, which were competitive for decades until the Trump era, are no longer Democratic targets. The Blue Wall states are home to significant shares of white, working-class voters, but Biden has retained strong support with unions. Democrats are also putting in significant efforts, especially in Wisconsin, to reach Black voters and be on college campuses.

It's also because of the continued shift with college-educated white voters toward Democrats. In 2020, Trump won college-educated white men by 3 points in 2020, according to exit polls, but the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll showed Biden winning the group by more than 20 points. But they are declining as a share of the population and of the electorate.

The university closed its campus Wednesday evening as LAPD began arresting demonstrators. One person was also arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, Muniz said. "The university is a private campus and the group had been violating some of their orders. It was a trespass at that point and we assisted with the arrests," Los Angeles Police Captain Kelly Muniz said during a briefing.

This year's election is also going to be different from 2020 in a very big way. Because of the pandemic, mail-in voting was used widely and that contributed heavily to increased turnout. In 2020, 66% of registered voters cast ballots, the highest since 1900. Combined with the increasing Latino and Asian American population and a remigration to the South of young Black voters, particularly in Georgia, that has meant a reshaping of the electoral map.

We transform our sports spaces to create a variety of large, medium, and intimate venues for your next corporate or social event. At one point during the demonstrations, tensions escalated as protesters refused to relocate and remove their tents and other prohibited items, a university official said. If a tie happened, Trump would likely become president, because a tie would go to the House. The voting delegations would be those voted into the House after this year's congressional elections. "I would be very surprised if we have a turnout rate like we saw in 2020," McDonald said. "And the people who would most likely then not participate ... are going to be these lower-education voters. And so it's going to pose a real challenge to the Trump campaign, to energize these folks yet again to vote in 2020."

Adding the CADENCE+ restaurants and concessions to the venue allows us to offer high-quality events, food, and training in the heart of Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Our mission is to connect communities by offering exceptional spaces for people to come together for food, drink, and sport, enjoying the great indoors and outdoors. Visit Monroeville markets the Monroeville Convention Center, hotels, and other indoor and outdoor venues in the area to promote the region as a low-cost, high-quality location for trade shows, conventions, entertainment, and sporting events. The convention center's owner, Oxford Development, announced earlier this week that the center would become a Hobby Lobby. This sent several organizers scrambling, as Oxford Development canceled events scheduled after June 1 with the announcement.

A photographer was among those arrested during clashes between protesters and law enforcement on the University of Texas at Austin campus on Wednesday. Other buildings on the campus in Arcata are at risk of being occupied, and protesters “have shown a willingness” to lock themselves in facilities and steal equipment, the officials said. Work and classes will remain remote, and officials are considering keeping the campus closed for longer.

While North Carolina was also close in 2020 — within 2 points — given its history of voting Republican, it begins the cycle in the Lean Republican category. Democrats feel the gubernatorial race in the state could help them, as Republicans nominated a highly controversial candidate, who could turn off swing voters. But the toss up states are expected to be close, within just a few points, in either candidate's direction.

A lot of prestigious art schools don’t teach such seemingly rudimentary things. They assume the students have mastered this already, even if they haven’t. ArtCenter understands that one cannot paint a masterful portrait without first understanding the fundamentals. Seeing means truly understanding what you are looking at – and not only understanding it, but also interpreting it.

What has kept me grounded throughout this journey is being fluent in the art of seeing. This skill is like an anchor, keeping me centered whenever my whims carry me too far out to sea.

Create possibilities for students at ArtCenter and amplify their impact on the world.

Perhaps it’s due to a collective yearning for a purportedly simpler time. I have no idea where my inspiration comes from. When left to my own devices, I simply refer to my sketchbooks.

He has taught Illustration & drawing at De Anza College, Academy of Art University, California College of Arts and Crafts, and holds a vocational teaching certicate from the State of California. I’ve kept every sketchbook, starting with ArtCenter sketchbooks since I was about 18, many of which were purchased from the campus bookstore. There are few feelings more gratifying than digging through the crates of your past, finding an ancient sketchbook, and unearthing an idea you can still put to good use today. I’ve been told that my work is redolent of an imagined America. I’m not nostalgic for the 1930s, and certainly not the 1950s. Midcentury style is certainly back in vogue; that’s hard to deny.

I usually create a unified and complete black and white template sketch at this point but since this client knows how I work and that I’ll meet their deadline, we took a more relaxed improvisational approach. Partially finished diagrams with callouts and collage were emailed with various sarcastic cracks and suggestions back and forth. The final art is executed in Adobe Illustrator so that no quality is lost when used at various sizes. I have a long, ongoing relationship with the excellent in house design dept. at BART (and their Art Consultant). After trading a few jokes and insults by phone, I provided them with 3 color sketches via email. He was selected to design the United States Postal Service’s 2006 Olympic Stamp, and has two posters in the Library of Congress permanent collection. UC Berkeley, Stanford, C.C.A.C., S.V.A.New York, and taught seminars at Chico State and UC Santa Cruz.

It all goes back to my ArtCenter sketchbooks. Whenever I take on a new project and I can solve it by simply cracking open an ArtCenter sketchbook and having that light bulb turn on over my head, I know I’m on the right path. Next came the thoroughly enjoyable task of selecting diverse Bay Area landmarks and making a reasonable composition.

Mattos Monuments Services

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about the things that I learned in my ArtCenter core classes, which were really about teaching students the nuts-and-bolts essentials of their discipline. It is ultimately a way of seeing, one that’s related to reading in that it involves cumulative absorption and study. If you find yourself lost, one missing detail can snap everything back into focus. ArtCenter teaches you, quite simply, the fundamentals of seeing as it relates to drawing.

If tests are required, there’s a number of steps and we’re — that people can take, and we’re working to expand that as quickly as possible. Now, at the same time, we know that online and in retail stores across the country they are restocking shelves with tests. We are continuing to open more federal testing sites, as we have done in New York and different cities that have been hardest hit across the country. And we continue to have 20,000 free sites across the country. What we’ve done is try to do this as quickly as possible through an expedited, accelerated contracting process to ensure that tests are available for free to people across the country as quickly as possible.

We'll be in touch with the latest information on how President Biden and his administration are working for the American people, as well as ways you can get involved and help our country build back better. And that’s what we’ve seen from Republicans continuing — like, when they put out their budget recently, that’s what they’re doing. As it relates to the bill — the law now — there’s time. There are already American investors who are — who are willing and are interested in buying TikTok. And so, that’s what members of Congress moved forward with.

Cleveland and McKinley administrations

And just last week, the Biden-Harris administration implemented the largest expansion of the gun background check requirement since 1993, addressing the very loophole that allowed the Columbine shooters to obtain their weapons. As the President has said, this is not normal, and it must end. That’s why he signed into law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant gun safety legislation in decades, and created the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. This administration will continue to take ambitious action to meet the urgency of the climate crisis, protect America’s lands and waters, and fulfil our responsibility to the next generations of Americans. Jean-Pierre told The Haitian Times she was thinking about her daughter and the future of the country when she decided to join Biden's 2020 campaign. Filling in for Psaki in May 2021, Jean-Pierre became the first Black woman in decades to lead a White House press briefing.

So, as you know, this afternoon, the Vice President will convene par- — pardon recipients and criminal justice reform advocate Kim Kardashian for a roundtable discussion to highlight the administration’s Second Chance policies during Second Chance Month. Now, look, it seems like Hamas just keeps wanting to move the goalposts. They could end the war now, and if they really believed in a state for the Palestinian people, they wouldn’t have violated the — the ceasefire that was in effect on the 6th of October, they’d lay down their arms, they’d let the hostages go. This announcement is part of the President’s broader commitment to build an economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down, and invest in all of America. So, we’re on our way to Syracuse, where President Biden will announce — oh — oh, it’s very loud back there. The source also told The Post that Dunn had claimed White House chief of staff Jeff Zients knew about and supported the cloak-and-dagger scheme to push Jean-Pierre out of the West Wing.

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre

Left unsaid were the other ways in which her path to becoming the president’s chief spokeswoman sharply diverged from that of her predecessors. Psaki is widely expected to take a job at MSNBC when she leaves. You’re seeing that from this — from this announcement today, but from many other announcements. He’s been doing this from day one of this administration.

Looking back at the last 15 months and 244 briefings, Psaki said she was "very nervous" when she first visited the Bidens in Delaware in November 2020, saying the majority of that conversation was about "the importance of returning integrity, respect, and civility to the White House." Ms. Psaki’s last day as press secretary will be May 13. She is expected to take an on-air role with MSNBC. I talked about the humanitarian aid that’s needed.

Jen Psaki

You know, President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu a little more than two weeks ago. And in the time that has unfolded since his conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu, we have seen a marked increase in the amount of humanitarian assistance that has gone into Gaza and, importantly, a very significant increase in the amount of assistance that has gone to Northern Gaza, where the U.N. And others had told us the challenges of malnutrition and potential famine were most acute. Until recently, as we’ve said on many occasions, we were unable to provide these ATACMS because of readiness concerns.

The President — as the President, he’s the president for everybody, obviously, and he’s going to be running for reelection, asking for the votes from everybody. And so — and we’re — you know, we’re going to do our best. The President is going to continue to work very hard to make sure that we lower those costs when we think about food and we think about gas prices. And we are already — we already begin to see this happen in a range of measures. For example, core PCE, which is the inflation measure the Fed watches most closely, was around 4 percent at an — at an annualized rate in the last three months and is down from 6 percent annualized in the last months before that. I have to tell you, I missed — I missed that interaction because I was preparing to come back out for my second briefing in front of you all.

And, you know, we are insisting that that happen, in addition to ensuring the safety and protection of the people of Rafah. So, you put all that together and I think the calculus of the Russians or the critics of Ukraine who say, “Time is on Russia’s side” — they’ve got it wrong. We believe that the structural dynamics of this conflict favor the country defending its own territory.

So, from our perspective, now that we’ve resolved our readiness concerns, being able to step up and provide our own capabilities to Ukraine, as partners of ours have — the UK, the French, others — we think it’s appropriate to do at this moment. We think it is a good capability in this phase of the conflict for Ukraine, and we will stand behind that four-square. So, we think it’s good that we’re able to provide them, but I don’t expect to stand before you and say one capability has — has been the silver bullet in this conflict.

Getting this bill passed entailed months of advocacy, hands-on work by President Biden himself, by his White House team, by his national security team, and countless briefings, meetings, hearings by departments and agencies across our government for the Congress in both the House and the Senate. As the President has consistently made clear, public officials, including judges, must be able to do their jobs without concern for their personal safety or that of their families. And any violence threats — threats of violence or attempts to intimidate justices have no place in our society. He has said that himself, and we have been forceful from the podium many times. In 2015, she returned to the White House as communications director and stayed through the end of the Obama administration. "Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people," Biden said in a statement announcing the news.

I’m not going to speculate or speak to any of the reportings that are out there at this time. I’m going to say it now, though I know you all will — will certainly ask me about it, that we do not have any comment on the reports at this time. Obviously, you all heard from Secretary Blinken earlier this morning. And finally, I know there’s a lot — a lot of interest in reports from the Middle East overnight, and we understand that. They need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe storage of guns, pass a national red-flag law, and invest in proven solutions that reduce violence, also enact universal background checks. We’ve also made the largest investment in youth mental health in American history.

Jean-Pierre served as Regional Political Director for the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Obama-Biden administration and as Deputy Battleground States Director for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. Today, President Biden announced Karine Jean-Pierre has been promoted to be Assistant to the President and White House Press Secretary. Karine will step into the Press Secretary role replacing Jen Psaki, who will depart from the White House on May 13. It’s — it’s a concern that majority of Americans have. And so, we want to see that move forward. And I think Mitch McConnell spoke for himself on that.

This is — the President wants to protect Americans. He w- — he wants to protect Americans’ privacy. He wants to protect Americans from coun- — a country, in this — in this instance, that wants to potentially do us harm. And that’s what he believes is important. The President earlier today said the 2017 tax bill that was passed under President Trump — if he is reelected — if President Biden is reelected, it would be dead and gone forever.

What most internet-savvy people mean by the term WordPress is the free, open-source blogging platform that comes from WordPress.org. WordPress.org software is such a popular site-building platform that many web hosting services even offer managed WordPress hosting plans. WordPress.com, on the other hand, is a service that deploys and hosts that software for you, so you don't have to find a hosting service. Web.com supplemented its mediocre web hosting offerings by adding website building features, and it’s all the better for it. The builder includes e-commerce and WordPress tools, along with a large library of templates and stock photography. You see, the site builder plan includes a free domain and hosting, and gives you the option to buy additional shared hosting tiers.

Never waste your time and money on a custom web design firm that simply can’t give you what you need. Note also that the Internet now allows web design and marketing services to be provided all across the globe. It is great to work with an interactive firm that has worked with clients from different geographical locations so you can enjoy a more global approach in terms of marketing services. If you anticipate working with a custom web design firm for a long time, check to see if they do provide long-term services. Looking through their sample work can give you an idea of what to expect from their services.

A list of the company's services boldly stands out on the homepage in a consistent two-column display, adding to the site's visual appeal. High-quality images of past and ongoing projects are visible on the homepage, engaging users in their quality display. It is also best to ask for a description of the development and implementation process along with price quotes for different aspects of the site marketing project. This way, you have a better understanding of what is expected of you by the web marketing firm. Checking the web design firm’s portfolio is a great idea in itself, but there are a few technical aspects that can never be really seen through a portfolio such as software development or database. That means it’s very important that you use a combination of various approaches for you to find the web design firm that will really meet all your custom needs.

Its team of web developers, art directors, and content strategies collaborates in analyzing customers' profiles, developing custom websites, and creating branding strategies. They have completed 60 projects for various companies like One Carpet Market and Fox Report. Biden names Karine Jean-Pierre as White House press secretary

And that’s what’s shown through in the votes, both in the House and the 79-vote aye vote outcome we saw in the Senate last night. "I’m just so grateful to have had Karine by my side for this over the last 15 months, and I just can’t wait to see her shine at the podium," Psaki said, as she held Jean-Pierre's hand. "Congratulations, and I can’t wait to see you bring your own style and brilliance to this job. I love you." Prior to joining the White House, Jean-Pierre served as chief of staff for vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris during the 2020 campaign and was the national spokeswoman for MoveOn.org during the 2016 election. She previously worked on both of Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns. Biden also announced that Anita Dunn would return to the administration as a senior adviser and assistant to the president.

U.S. leadership in the Summit process underscores our deep and historical commitment to the people of the Western Hemisphere as well as our commitment to realizing the Build Back Better World (B3W) initiative. Working with the city of Los Angeles, Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti, and Governor of California Gavin Newsom, the United States looks forward to convening leaders and stakeholders across the hemisphere to advance our shared commitment to economic prosperity, security, human rights, and dignity. And this is something that the President has said throughout his first 16 months — that that’s why he has never supported “defund the police” — he’s been clear about that — and why he sent state and local government billions of dollars last year through the American Rescue Plan to hire more police. He said that right before coming on board, speaking to all of you.

And you’ve heard Secretary Blinken, obviously, who’s now in Beijing, speak to our concerns with respect to the PRC and its support for Russia’s defense industrial base. And we have been vocal from this podium about both North Korea and Iran, and we’ll continue to be. Jean-Pierre was born in Haiti and immigrated to the U.S. as a child, growing up in Queens, New York. She has served as deputy press secretary since the start of the administration and has filled in for Psaki behind the White House podium and briefed reporters traveling with the president. So, look, Sweden is a strong, capable defense partner that shares NATO’s values and will strengthen the Alliance and contribute to the European security. In fact, on a daily basis, at senior levels, we’re talking to the U.N. As they try to coordinate the humanitarian element of this. So, I can’t speak specifically to these reports, how they relate to Israel’s future military operations, because I’ve only seen them kind of written in the newspaper. I haven’t yet seen what exactly they’re referring to.

And there is no place — no place for — for hate or hateful rhetoric or any type of violence, obviously. “There were a number of people she asked to engage Karine,” said one source who heard of the strategy directly from Dunn, whose role as senior adviser has been filled during the past three presidencies by Jared Kushner (Donald Trump), Valerie Jarrett (Barack Obama) and Karl Rove (George W. Bush). According to a New York Post report, the Biden Administration attempted to oust Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre last fall by recruiting outside allies to nudge her out the door. Top Biden aides are reportedly unhappy with the maladroit way in which KJP manages the press briefings, including reading canned answers from her binder. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki has officially landed at MSNBC, where she is expected to make appearances on the network's cable and streaming programs as well as host a new original show.

press secretary white house

And the president — you know, the President has asked Congress in March for more funds to beef up policing coast to coast. We continue to call on Congress to pass the President’s budget. Q    Do you have any response to the arrest of a man outside — near Brett Kavanaugh’s house? As we’ve been standing here, we’ve seen that he’s been charged with attempted murder as well. And I don’t know if the President will end up raising it, but we’ll ask our team. If that would be helpful, then of course he would do it.

President Joe Biden's administration is moving at home and abroad to try to address concerns about rising energy prices slowing the nation's recovery from the pandemic-induced recession. The White House is warning that other countries are already moving ahead of the U.S. in putting in their advance orders for the next generation of therapies. Sadly, if that means that not all of them come back alive, then they still need to be with their families. We just don’t know the condition of each and every one of them. You can’t count on Hamas to be perfectly honest about — about all their conditions.

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jen Psaki, December 13, 2021

WASHINGTON — President Biden on Thursday selected Karine Jean-Pierre, the principal deputy press secretary, to replace Jen Psaki as the top White House spokeswoman, making her the first Black woman to hold one of the most high-profile jobs in American politics. The President has been very much engaged in this week, this — this past week. And so, look, we want to see this moving. We’re grateful to the leaders for getting this moving — certainly looks like — out of the House. We want to see it moved out of the Senate, get this signed by the President so we can get that — the — that all-important national security needs to where — to — to protect our national security, obviously.

And obviously, to work, there’s now nine tests that are approved to go to market that different companies and different school districts and others can have direct contact with. We have just opened a number of federal testing sites in New Jersey, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia. We will continue to expand those — big federal testing sites — and we have 20,000 free sites across the country. Q    Along those same lines, for people who see those long testing lines — you have more sites, but it’s cold out; people don’t want to wait in that.

All of that, I think, should pave the way for a good-faith effort on the part of every country, every stakeholder in the Americas — Brazil included — to take the necessary action and the necessary responsibility. We’ll see what President Bolsonaro comes to the table with on his side. He supports the LEAF Coalition, which is all about a public-private effort to compensate landowners for not cutting down forests.

And I think people will look back at the Los Angeles Declaration as a new platform upon which we build a migration strategy collectively as a hemisphere for the years going forward. This builds on the chain of free trade agreements we already have in the hemisphere. And it’s really designed to deal with 21st century challenges like supply chains and decarbonization, but also a vision of economic growth that is rooted in President Biden’s principles about economic growth having to come from the bottom up and the middle out rather than the top down. And we think that that will be highly welcomed in the hemisphere.

And so, we’re going to let that process be. Look, we do not want to see that type of — any — any civilians — any innocent civilian’s life taken. “Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people. Jill and I have known and respected Karine a long time and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this Administration.

These brief on-land sojourns are opportunities to explore different ports of call, and to get the feel of a place, from charming cities in Canada to tropical beach towns in the Caribbean. When you embark on an NCL cruise, you’ll have several shore excursion opportunities, but again, each one is quite short (usually a day at most). When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. While we don’t cover all available credit cards, our editorial team creates and maintains all of the analysis of these cards, and our content is not influenced nor subject to review by any credit card company, bank or partner prior to (or after) publication. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information.

No extensions or other exchanges will be allowed for any Offer or Reward. All Rewards, Offers are subject to change at our discretion, so please check the expiration dates of any offer to confirm eligibility and validity. In choosing a cruise travel agent, you will want to tap into the person's specific expertise about the cruise line and ship you are considering. Anyone can read a ship deck plan outlining ship spaces (which you can find online), but you are looking for people who really know their stuff. You might get more personalized care from smaller agencies than from the huge online agencies, though websites such as icruise.com, Cruise.com and Cruise411.com also have experienced cruise agents. These larger online travel agencies can be a good option for those who prefer to make decisions and ask questions via chat.

The Best Travel Agency For Norwegian Cruises

Feel free to contact our dedicated team of Accessibility Coordinators if you have any question or concerns. Most cruise lines, including Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line, have some version of a "Find a Travel Agency" search tool on their homepage. In most cases, its located in one of the menus located near the bottom of the page. Look for agents offering discounts, free perks and other incentives. If you don't see a sign or advertisement, always ask -- the agent may have fabulous offers the cruise lines won't let him or her publicize. In addition, ask if the agent can meet or beat the best price you've seen elsewhere.

Participation in the Program is subject to the Terms and Conditions, as well as policies and procedures that the Company may adopt or modify from time to time. Offers, Rewards and NCLU Degree Level achieved do not constitute property and, thus, may not be exchanged for cash, auctioned or assigned or transferred by a Qualifying Travel Agent or Qualifying Travel Agency or by operation of law to any person. Qualifying Travel Agents and Qualifying Travel Agencies are responsible for keeping track of any Offer or Reward.

The Company shall have full power and authority to interpret the "NCLU" Terms and Conditions and make all "NCLU" decisions. All participants shall be bound by all such determinations of the Company. The Company reserves the right to disqualify anyone it determines in its sole discretion to be engaged in fraud, or in behavior that is obnoxious, threatening, illegal, or intended to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass.

Social Media & Influencer Marketing

You will also want to ask the travel agent if they have a preferred relationship or negotiated agreement with any specific lines that could lead to special perks for you. You might, for instance, see a fare listed online without the port charges, taxes and fees, which you only see after you give your personal details. Enrich your cruise vacation with up to 6 Free Offers with Norwegian's Free At Sea promotion. Choose from Free Unlimited Open Bar, Free Specialty Dining, Free Airfare for 2nd Guest, Free Shore Excursions, Free WiFi and Free 3rd & 4th Guests.

If you enjoy doing your own research, focus on what to do and see in the ports of call. However, when it comes to booking the cruise, we recommend you still contact a travel agent who specializes in cruises to help you learn a few tips and avoid any rookie mistakes. Plus, the price of your cruise includes accommodations, meals, entertainment and activities — and in some cases drinks, tips, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and other extras.

You can search for a CLIA-certified travel agent on the organization's website. Use the search tool to locate agents in your area with a variety of levels of CLIA training. Many agents become accredited cruise counselors through CLIA's Cruise Academy or take courses through the different cruise lines to become more expert at selling their products. Inquire whether the agent has attended any of these training programs. In addition, you can look for affiliations with the National Association of Cruise Oriented Agencies (NACOA), Better Business Bureau (BBB), American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) or even AAA.

Once you've chosen your cruise and, with the agent's help, matched your style with your vacation goals, you've got to book the trip. Again, it's a bit more complex than you might think, but a good agent will make the process go smoothly -- from securing the right cabin type and location to booking the dinner seating that will suit you and your party. Your agent will also be able to sort out travel insurance, if required, and will collect payment for the cruise (usually a deposit at the time of booking and the full amount 60 to 90 days before departure). In addition, the agent can help you with the rest of your travel plans, such as pre- or post-cruise stays, airfare and transfers. Norwegian Central is your essential, one-stop shop for all things NCL. Points will be awarded based on different booking factors, including stateroom category and cruise itinerary, encouraging agents to identify opportunities to upsell and maximise their point earning potential in the process.

A cruise travel agent will guide you through choosing your cabin and dining times, deposits and final payment, and options for shore excursions and specialty dining. If you need to cancel the trip, the agent will also help you through the refund process. You'll have a lot less stress before and during your vacation if you book with an experienced agent.

If you'd like to book a cruise through a travel agent, you can pop into a downtown storefront or search for cruise sellers online. If you want to look for agents registered with travel organizations, here are some resources for finding agencies near you. Find out if the travel agent has preferred status with any cruise lines or whether he or she belongs to travel consortiums that would enable him or her to get you better deals, upgrades, etc. But watch out -- some agents will push a particular line too aggressively for your tastes. You don't want to get caught in an agent's agenda if the cruise line isn't right for you.

Question the agents on cruising trends or up-and-coming destinations, and ask them to explain the differences between cruise lines. Find out how many cruises they've taken that year and with which lines they've personally cruised. If the agent has rarely cruised, you might want to take your business elsewhere.

The cruise travel agent should have questions for you as well, to better understand your dream vacation desires. If you are calling a cruise agency for the first time, the agent should be interviewing you as much as you are interviewing him or her. The agent should be focused on helping you choose the cruise line, ship and cabin that is right for you. Making the correct choices is very important to your overall cruise experience. By logging in to Norwegian Central, partners gain direct single log-in access to NCL’s agent booking engine Seaweb, as well to a complete relaunch of NCL’s award-winning training platform NCL University (NCLU). The all-new knowledge hub provides refreshed course content, new achievement levels and a reimagined reduced rate programme that allows agents to book reduced cruises for module course completion.
